Yield: 1 cake

Rating: Untested

Ingredients

  • ½ c. Crisco
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. flour
  • ½ t. nutmeg
  • ½ t. cinnamon
  • ½ t. allspice
  • ½ t. cloves
  • 2 t. cocoa
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • 1 t. salt
  • 2 c. applesauce
  • ¾ c. raisins
  • ¾ c. nuts
  • ¾ c. dates, chopped

Directions

  • In the main bowl, blend Crisco and sugar. Beat the eggs and add.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, cocoa, soda, and salt.
  • Add sifted mixture, alternately with applesauce, to the main bowl.
  • Add the raisins, nuts, and dates.
  • Pour into a well-greased and floured tube pan.
  • Bake for 350 degrees F for 1 ½ hours.

Notes

  • For a more flavorful cake (or if the spices are old), use rounded measurements of spices.
