Yield: frosting for tops & sides of two 8- or 9-inch cake layers

Rating: 4 of 5 - simple, good, rich

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. powdered sugar
  • ¼ t. salt
  • ¼ c. milk
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 1/3 c. soft butter or margarine

Directions

  • Add the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl. Beat with an electric mixer or heavy spoon until smooth and creamy, scraping the bowl often.
  • Spread on cake. If too thick to spread easily, beat in a few drops of milk.

Notes

  • For a mild chocolate frosting, simply add a bit (a couple of tablespoons, perhaps) of cocoa powder. There is enough sugar in the frosting to keep it sweet.
