Yield: two 8-inch pies

Rating: 3 of 5 - simple

Ingredients

  • 5 c. shredded apples
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 T. flour
  • 1 ½ t. cinnamon
  • ¾ t. nutmeg
  • 1 egg
  • 6 T. melted butter
  • unbaked pie shell

Directions

  • Mix together cooled butter and slightly beaten egg. Pour over apples and set aside.
  • Blend dry ingredients together and sprinkle over the apple mixture until coated.
  • Pour into the pie shell and bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Notes

  • If making deep-dish pies, yields 1.5 pies.
  • If using apples with little flavor, the spices and sugar are overpowering. Use fewer spices and sugar, or stronger apples.
