Monument Valley, Straight Road2000 Aug picture of a straight road to the horizon in Monument Valley, Utah

Nikon FT2, cheap-and-slightly-broken 28mm f/2.8, Kodak TMY
From a $25 ebay camera with a free lens that I had to constantly take apart to keep the aperature stop-down lever working. I shot this roll of film when I was last out west but forgot to get it developed for nearly two years. This picture is pretty horrible from a techincal standpoint, but there is something about it that made me want to get back into photography.

Cheap camera, cheap lens. I think it's quite pretty.

This is a lousy scan from the photo lab (probably around 1200 dpi), but the film grain is so high that you don't really notice. This was my first experiment with the Ilford Delta Pro films, and I was so impressed with just the one roll that I totally dropped TMZ. This is a fantastic film. I now do a fair bit ambient-light work with Delta 3200 at 3200, or, for better tones, 1250 or 1600 if the light allows.

Mamiya C220, 180mm f/4.5 Super (black), E100S, 80A filter, long exposure (over 60 sec, if I recall)
Taken at about two A.M. on a dark summer night beneath a street lamp in the CRC, I had to lay on my back under my tripod in the middle of a road to get this. Given that the road has some light traffic even at that hour and the twelve frames I took each had exposures in the range of a minute, 'twas no small feat of patience. I computed the reciprocity failure correction in my head and counted out the seconds "one dirty dog, two dirty dogs, three...". I got lucky. The filter mostly corrected the lamp colors and pushed the grayish sky to a deep blue. I had a hunch.
(Despite the odd colors and strange contrast, only a bare minimum of editing was done on this image: I "curved" out a bit of lens flare in the sky, trimmed the levels, and USM'ed it. That's it.)

Man's best friend after a nice tiring hike up Sharp Top. This was taken in a back seat of a car zooming down the back roads of Bedford County, so there is quite a bit of motion blur and thus this image is really as large as it can get.
